Fishing Report

Saratoga, July 2nd 2008:
The North Platte River at North Gate is currently running at 1550csf
with 16"- 24" of visibility. Tributaries below Routt put-in are running
clear and steady. Night time temps are projected to stay above 32
for the next week with day time temps in the mid 70's to 80's.
Run-off should decrease over the next week. Fishing has been
good but the water is starting to warm up (mid 50's - 60's) and the
fish are getting picky. Finding some fish looking up for dries but
nymphing and streamers are the best producers... besides
spinners and rapalas. Caddis, stone flies, and pmd's are the main
hatch's right now.
The Encampment River is running 697csf at the confluence with
Hog Park Creek and 1110csf near the confluence with the North
Platte River. Visibility is around 4ft and the fish are starting to eat.
The River level should decrease over the next week and green
drakes should be popping real soon. Temps are low 40's to high
40's with golden stones and little yellow sallies hatching right now.
The Snowy Range Pass (Hwy 130) is open and there is plenty of
snow on the mountains. The snow pack level for the North Platte
River basin is around 46% of average. Most lakes are still frozen
but starting to melt. I hear the skiing is really good. The snow gets
pretty heavy by mid to late afternoon though. It could be mid to late
June before the back roads open.
